Type-4 / Porsche 914 engine buggy exhaust system needed

Bericht door Kalda » vr, 30 okt 2009 12:35

Hi all,

I am new here and do not know how it works here so dont yell on me in the case I do anything wrong.
I am building engine to my vw buggy.
It is 1,8 L type 4 from porsche 914 and I need a exhausting system.
My old one is not very good I guess, because it is just in front of the cooling system and hot air is sucked into my engine.
Do you have any advise for me, where to buy anything??
I hope I made everything clear, my english is not excellent...sorry for that

Here are some pictures of my buggy, engine and exhausting system.

Hi Gert,
thanx a lot. Good to hear from You too. I also know about guys from Ahnendorp. I sent them an email last week but no-one replied yet. But everything turns upsidedown now. I got really good offer to buy type1 2,2L, so it looks like I am gonna freeze this type4 project down and I am gonna start to search for type1 exhausting system.
Bu I dont know it for sure yet. If anyone of you guys has any other idea about type4 exhausting system........just let me know.
And Kyote, thank YOu for an advise I am sure this ex. system work just great but I would probably do it professional way.
Thanx,
Martin

Hi Dr. Beetle,
yes this definately looks like type 4 exhausting system, but I guess it does fit just with porsche cooling system..not with the standard one.

.
Hello all,

I've been searching for ready-to-fit standard cooling type-4 engine buggy exhausts for several years already.

But I never found one, so i'm afraid, they don't exist.

The only 4-in-1-in-2 I've ever seen is this one, but it's home made / adapted.
And as you can see, the 4-in-1 collector covers part of the cooling air intake.

BAS Ahnendorp only has exhaust solutions for porsche-style type-4 engines,

and it looks to me that this goes for Turbo homas as well. :(

on first sight, this one will not fit because the standard cooling housing comes lower :

and the distance from the outlet ports to the 4-in-1 collector of this one looks pretty much the same as the previous one,
so i'm afraid, that's a no-go as well

The circumstances has changed. Now one of my friends is building new engine to my buggy. Type1, 2,2L..about 150PS. But anyway......i still have this 1,8L type4 engine at home.........so if anyone knows about any possibility of exhausting system, let me know.
And one more question, is there anyone with strong engine in his buggy? I just want to know if I am on my way to hell or not :D

@ Kalda,

On the links below you can find some type-4 exhaust ideas :
(most of them are custom-made or home-made solutions)

And as a reply to your question about buggy's with strong engines ...

Check out our friend Franky's Vanclee Buggy with a Porsche 3.6 engine.
According to him, with all this horse power "accellerating and turning don't go well together" :

If you are looking for a "normal", street legal, fast buggy, that can be handled (with caution),
then I suggest to watch bugpuck's buggy :

Afbeelding

He was the fastest at the 1/8 mile sprint on the 2007 LKC meeting,
faster than a Porsche Carrera 2.7, which ended up in 2nd place.
This is the proof that horsepower alone isn't a guarantee to be fastest,
and can be beaten by a smaller (fast) engine in a very well balanced light buggy setup.
