Without any doubt, the Vanclee was one of the most beautiful looking buggies
from its era.
The accentuated sporty lines of this vehicle were extra emphasized by a very
slantingly placed windshield in a metal or fiberglass frame, side-skirts,
and the rather unique doors in plexi glass.
Like most of the other traditional Buggies, these 2+2 seaters also were
built on a shortened VW chassis. There were several versions deliverable with
engines varying from the 1200cc Beetle up to a 1700cc originating from the
VW 411. |

The Highway was clearly an evolution of the buggy to a sports car.
It’s pretty obvious that the Highway inherited the sporty lines from the
Vanclee buggy, yet distinguished itself by the front-spoiler, the
rectangular head lamps, and the very innovating roof with sunroof. Access
to the cockpit was obtained by lifting the complete roof in one piece
(including windshield and side windows). |

The Emmet, which looked more like a jeep rather then a buggy was built on a
Citroën 2 PK frame. The Emmet was shown to the public for the first time in
Brussels in January 1978.
The original design, which looked a lot like a Citroën Mehari, got several
face-lifts as time passed and also changed names regular : initial Emmet,
later Mungo and in the end EMU.
The doors could be removed, and the vehicle could be driven with open or
closed boot, which varied the look from jeep to pick-up. |
